Description
Door panels on older Toyota cars are typically made out of a porous fiberboard. Over the years, this fiberboard gets weak/worn out, which usually results in the retainer on the panel for the clips getting torn out. These repair pads are made of ABS plastic, and are designed to repair the broken fiberboard where it normally holds the clip to the door panel.
Tested on an AE86 door panel, may fit many other Toyotas or other vehicles, and are sold in packs of 10 (the GTS door panels I have use 9, so you’ll get 1 extra). Install by overlaying the repair pad on the door panel, and use a strong adhesive (not included) to attach in place. I recommend a thicker adhesive so it doesn’t all get absorbed into the fiberboard. I used Gel Super Glue, but this does break down the ABS slightly. Something meant for plastic as well as a porous material like wood would probably work best.
NOTE – After installing, you MUST use a clip remover tool if you are going to remove the door panel again. These pads are meant to REPAIR the fiberboard retainer, however, if you try to yank the door panel out without a clip tool – the pads and adhesive will likely get pulled off of the fiberboard.
Here’s a video going over the install of these pads:
